This course of English 105 allows me to learn the standard of writing. Before I formally enter NAU, learn how to regulate your writing. Not only that, but it can also correct my previous writing habits. In many writings in the United States, there are many different standards. For example, people other than the second person cannot be used subjects.
In class, I learned the format and usage of citation. Before I quote the results of others, I need to explain why I need to cite his findings next. When I need to use the research results of some experts or highly professional people in the research article, I need to use quotation marks to mark the part I use, and use citation at the end of the sentence. The surname of the expert or professional person, the information I cited is on the pages of his research article. When I finished quoting, I need to explain in my own words, and then focus on explaining his research arguments and results to further understand my research questions.
At first, I didn’t understand the reason. I think that Americans pay attention to intellectual property rights and do not want others to infringe on his or her research results, because this is neither polite nor violates legal regulations in the United States. But then I think that it is not only to protect the intellectual property rights of researchers, but also to let others know that your own research articles are justified and well-founded, and it is also convenient for readers to learn a lot if readers are interested.
